KOBATEK 540 HARD-FILLER ELECTRODE 3.25 mm × 350, 5 kg package
It has the highest hardness among cobalt-based electrodes. It is used for hard-facing welding of high-alloy steel, hot-work steel, self-hardening steel, high-manganese steel, and nickel alloys.
The resulting filler metal contains a high percentage of "Co" (cobalt) and exhibits excellent resistance to thermal shocks up to 800°C,
as well as to corrosion, oxidation, and metal-to-metal
friction under pressure. The filler metal retains its hardness even at high
operating temperatures. Its high resistance to cavitation wear is another important feature.
Hardness: 53–56 HRC (+20°C)
42–46 HRC (+600°C)
– Hot-cutting blades and tools
– Pump shafts operating at high temperatures
– Plastic extrusion screws
– Surface hardfacing of rails and rollers operating at high temperatures
– Ingot holder pointed jaw tips
– Hardfacing of protective shields in faucet gasket seats
– Hardfacing of friction-bearing surfaces
– Paper and cardboard cutting blades
A preheating temperature of 300–400°C must be applied to thick-section parts before welding. The interpass temperature must be strictly controlled, and a slow cooling rate must be ensured after welding. In applications performed on certain Cr-Ni steels,
if necessary, a backing pass should be applied using Kobatek 382, Kobatek 352,
or AS P-310R electrodes. No more than two passes should be made with Kobatek 540.
In cases where thick deposits are required, after the first passes are applied with
Kobatek 541 or 543, the cover pass can be completed with Kobatek 540.
