Ceramic welding backing plates enable the achievement of a flawless root pass weld by welding from a single side on plates and pipes, thereby saving time and labor costs. Since the melting point of ceramics is more than twice that of metals, ceramic backing plates are resistant to high temperatures; therefore, they do not react with the molten weld metal during welding and do not affect the metal’s chemical composition. In particular, they eliminate the need for grinding and re-welding—which are otherwise required to clean up root passes made with flux-cored welding wire.
