Luchs NiCrMo-3 (625) Inconel Nickel TIG Welding Wire, 2.40 mm
While it is a NiCrMo alloy suitable for use in joining applications requiring corrosion resistance, it also finds use in a wide range of applications in high-temperature environments. It can be used for welding different materials,
for joining low- and high-alloy steels, and for cladding these materials.
Important notes for the welding process
Care should be taken to weld with low heat input and ensure that the interpass temperature does not exceed 150°C. If MIG welding is to be performed, pulsed welding is recommended; however, no heat treatment is required before or after welding.

Inconel 625 nickel-chromium alloy (UNS N06625 / 2.4856) is used for its high strength, excellent machinability (including joining), and exceptional corrosion resistance. Operating temperatures range from freezing cold to 982 °C.
Its chemical composition is shown in the table above. The strength of Inconel 625 stems from the hardening effect of molybdenum and niobium on the nickel-chromium matrix. This combination of elements also provides superior resistance to high-temperature effects such as oxidation and carburization, as well as exceptionally severe corrosive environments.
The properties that make Inconel 625 an excellent choice for seawater applications include resistance to localized attack (pitting and crevice corrosion), high corrosion fatigue strength, high tensile strength, and resistance to chloride-ion stress-corrosion cracking.
Inconel 625 (Alloy 625) Applications
Wire ropes for mooring lines, propeller blades for patrol boats, submarine auxiliary propulsion motors, submarine quick-disconnect couplings, exhaust ducts for naval vessels, sheathing for submarine communication cables, submarine converter controls, and steam line bellows. Potential applications include springs, gaskets, bellows for submersible controls, electrical cable connectors, fasteners, bending devices, and oceanographic instrument components
Inconel 625 has several properties that make it suitable for aerospace applications: high tensile, creep, and tensile strength; superior fatigue and thermal fatigue resistance; oxidation resistance; and excellent weldability and brazability.
Some applications in the aerospace industry include: aircraft duct systems, engine exhaust systems, thrust-reverse systems, heat-resistant honeycomb structures for engine control housings, fuel and hydraulic line tubes, nozzle rods, bellows, turbine shroud rings, and heat exchanger tubes. Environmental control systems. It is also suitable for combustion system transition sleeves, turbine seals, compressor blades, and rocket thrust chamber tubes.
Inconel 625’s exceptional and versatile corrosion resistance across a wide range of temperatures and pressures has been the primary reason for its widespread acceptance in the chemical processing industry. Due to its ease of fabrication, it is fabricated into various components for plant equipment. Its high strength allows it to be used in thin-walled vessels or pipes—where other materials would not be feasible—thereby improving heat transfer and reducing weight.
Some applications requiring the combination of strength and corrosion resistance offered by Inconel 625 include bubble caps, piping, reaction vessels, distillation columns, heat exchangers, transfer pipes, and valves. In the nuclear field, Inconel 625 can be used for reactor core and control rod components in nuclear water reactors. The material is preferred for its high strength, excellent uniform corrosion resistance, resistance to stress cracking, and excellent pitting resistance in water at temperatures ranging from 260–316 °C (260–310 °F). Inconel 625 is also used in advanced reactor concepts due to its high design strength at high temperatures, particularly between 1,200°–1,400° F (649–760° C).
